I keep hearing people say that we are in stick season, but I don’t know what they are talking about.

Every single photo in this post was taken in Hartford on December 9, 2023, and there was no editing to adjust color.

We don’t have to rush through the seasons.

Even when the way these seasons look and feel do not align with those of childhood memory.

We can slow down.

We can slow down and notice the world around us, the nature that we are part of. We can notice the neighborhoods we live in and begin thinking of ourselves as part of a community.

We can slow down and realize that nothing is gained by being the first one in line at the stop light and nothing is lost by waiting our turn.

We can slow down and listen to what is being said instead of coming into a conversation with all the prejudices that have built up since birth. Many of the tales we’ve been told have not been true. We can slow down and hold multiple truths at once. We can slow down and relearn how to treat strangers.

We can slow down and listen to the lyrics: “this land was made for you and me.”

Climate Possibilities is a series about climate mitigation, along with resilience, resistance, and restoration. It’s about human habitat preservation. It’s about loving nature and planet Earth, and demanding the kind of change that gives future generations the opportunity for vibrant lives. Doomers will be eaten alive, figuratively. All photographs are taken in Hartford, Connecticut unless stated otherwise.
