Here is the curated event calendar for August  September. As always, check with the venue/organizer to ensure that details have not changed:

ADD TO CALENDAR

  • CLIMATE FRIDAYS: Join the Connecticut chapter of the Sierra Club outside of the Governor’s Mansion (Prospect Avenue near Asylum Avenue) to demand that Gov. Lamont do what needs to be done so that we all have a healthy place to live. Where to start? Lamont should be supporting TCI, the Transportation and Climate Initiative Program, as the United States’ transportation sector is responsible for almost one-third of the country’s anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions; most of those emissions are expelled by light duty vehicles (cars, minivans, SUVs, pickup trucks). The rally begins on September 3, 2021 at 7:30 AM and goes through rush hour, but don’t be that tacky person who drives to a environmental action. Ride your bike, walk, or take the bus. The 72A drops you right at that corner; it’s about a 15-minute walk from the 56, 58, or 60-66 (Albany Ave or Farmington Avenue).
  • URBAN DOR: Game night and social for young Jews in Hartford. They are defining young as ages 21 to 35. This is an evening of ping pong, cornhole, kosher pizza, and wine and beer. I am allowed to tell you that it’s in easy walking distance of Union Station, but to get the exact address, you’ll need to register. This begins 7 PM on September 10, 2021 and it’s free.
  • PRIDE: The festival takes place in Bushnell Park on September 11, 2021, from 12-6 PM. This is described as being family friendly. Free.
  • SEA SHANTIES: The Vox Hunters and Jerry Bryant will be performing sea shanties in an outdoor lawn concert at the Connecticut Historical Society (which is right along the Park River, for those who may want to attempt rafting or kayaking there [wear a life jacket!]) on September 11, 2021, from 6-7 PM. People are invited to bring their picnics and chairs after 5 PM. There will be a food truck. If it rains, the music moves inside to the auditorium. The CHS is located at 1 Elizabeth Street. There is no charge for this event.
  • PINK EGGS & GLAM: Never been to a drag brunch? Drag your tired ass down to Pratt Street! There will be singing. Laughing. Brunch. The show is free, but if you want to eat, you need to make those arrangements for yourself. This is September 12, 2021. Various restaurants on Pratt Street open at 12 PM. The one-hour show begins at 1 PM. Although this is outdoors, wearing a mask when not eating is recommended — a larger crowd is expected. Presumably, you can also just wander around on Pratt Street and not spend money.
  • CLIMATE EMERGENCY TOWN HALLThey’re not calling it a rally, but there will be speakers, music, and poetry connected to ending environmental racism, specifically, at Bushnell Park. Where in the park? Seems like the pavilion. This is from 2-4 PM on September 18, 2021. This event has a half dozen groups responsible for organizing it.
  • FREE VACCINATION CLINIC: If you’re reading this, you most likely have your Covid vaccination, but if you know someone who does not, please let them know that there are numerous upcoming opportunities for them to do what’s right to keep themselves, their families, and other people’s families safe.
    • Free Center at 460 New Britain Avenue is hosting on September 3, 2021 and September 17, 2021 from 8 AM to 4 PM. You do not need to show photo ID or proof of insurance; no appointment is required.
    • Check this page to see where pop-up vaccination clinics will be on that day.
