When one tag appeared on a sign at the playground in Elizabeth Park, in the city’s West End, the graffiti made the news and it was dealt with right away.

Playground covered in graffiti

But when a playground gets vandalized in a less affluent neighborhood?

Records show that my first complaint to 311 about this graffiti on the Pope Park playground was submitted on July 26, 2020. I noticed it well before then, but there’s only so much griping I feel like doing in a day. It was marked “completed.”

Nothing was done.

My second complaint about the same graffiti, plus some new additions, was posted on November 22, 2020. It was marked again “completed” by the 311 folks.

The photos in this post were taken in March 2021. Same graffiti.

There are larger concerns, to be sure, but it is curious how some City services aren’t delivered to certain parts of town.
