The power plant, originally owned by Aetna, has been here since 1988. At the time of its opening, it was Connecticut’s fourth largest private producer of energy, according to the Courant.

I pass this every day and don’t give much thought to it.

Around the time it opened, I thought part of the plant, not visible in this photo, resembled ice cream cones — the cup style kind. Looking back at a newspaper article that came out around the time the plant hatched, its architect was quoted as saying that he designed this to look like a “stack on an old French ocean liner.”

I don’t know if that’s as cool as my interpretation of it as a dessert food, but it gives me a second idea to amuse myself with on my commute.
