Paved section of path, south of the Riverfront Plaza

It’s expected that the State Bond Commission will approve funds on Friday to finish paving the walkway between Charter Oak Landing and the existing path that crosses railroad tracks.

The curved path is paved but ends with a frequently locked gate, making exiting with a bicycle an interesting acrobatic feat.

Currently, a paved path connects that area to Riverside Park. The entrance/exit from Riverside Park is plainly visible, but the access point in the Sheldon/Charter Oak neighborhood is not immediately obvious, as the gate is almost always closed and signage pointing to the path is nonexistent.

One access point to park is along Van Dyke Avenue

A gravel and dirt path does link Charter Oak Landing to the paved area now, but this excludes park users in wheelchairs and those on bikes not designed for off-road use. According to a message from Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Wyman, the improvements will be made to this already existing gravel path.

The Riverwalk South and Gateway project will be getting a $1.5 million contribution from the State.

The MDC is in charge of Riverfront maintenance, like clearing and salting paths.
