Here is the curated event calendar for June.

ADD TO CALENDAR

  • WEST END FARMERS’ MARKET: Starting June 1, every Tuesday from 4-7 PM, outdoor farmers’ market on the Clemens Green — that’s the giant lawn between the Twain House driveway and cluster of apartment buildings on Farmington Avenue. In addition to the regular offerings, this season there will be new vendors including someone selling coffee and the Soulfully Vegan food truck. They double SNAP & EBT.

  • YOGA FLOW ON THE RIVER: Why would you ever do yoga in a strip mall or industrial park when you can be out in nature?! These weekly no-cost classes are taught by Hartford Sweat instructors. They say: “The classes are taught in a Vinyasa style flow of yoga postures suitable for any level of yoga experience, and the instructors are trained to recognize and provide modifications for past injuries or limitations a person may have so that everyone is relaxed and challenged to the level they desire.” Bring your own yoga mat or towel, and a bottle of water. Starting June 2, these are every Wednesday, 6-7 PM, at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza.

  • BROAD STREET FARMERS’ MARKET: The outdoor farmers’ market returns to the lawn next to Firebox (R.I.P.) every Thursday, beginning on June 3, 11 AM – 2 PM. SNAP accepted and doubled. They also accept cash, credit, and debit.

  • RIVERZUMBA: Starting June 3rd, it’s back on Thursdays at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, 6-7 PM. This is taught by instructors from Hartford Sweat. Never done this before? Wear sneakers and bring your own water. There’s no charge, but consider throwing some $$ at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza.

  • SUMMER RAINBOW PARTY!: This is an outdoor, all ages event. There’s gonna be drag queen storytime, henna art, other crafts, and ice cream. Go to the patio at the Hartford Public Library in downtown, 1-3 PM on June 9.

  • SUMMER SNACKING: Pickling workshop, scavenger hunt, and other naturey activities at the Free Center (460 New Britain Ave), 11 AM – 2 PM. This is on June 6, and if you’re only interested in the pickling workshop, that starts at 1 PM. Wear a mask.

  • SPRING SPLASH!: Bring a picnic and chair/blanket to Riverside Park and enjoy an hour-long concert by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s Wind Quintet. Music begins at 6:30 PM on June 9. If you’re planning to attend, register. It’s free.

  • CT Open House Day: Something influenced by the pandemic that I hope remains is this: distinct categories that tell people if an experience is outdoors, indoors, virtual, or some kind of hybrid. As someone who prefers to be outdoors unless there is a monsoon, this is helpful information regardless of what viruses are traveling among us. For the uninitiated, Connecticut Open House Day is a statewide collaboration that encourages attendance at museums, nature centers, and other sites, through incentives like free or reduced admission, or special events.  The water taxi in New London/Groton, for instance, is half price for adults on this day. In Hartford, the Connecticut Historical Society is offering free admission all day. The Butler-McCook House & Garden will as well, though pre-registration is required. Although you won’t be able to visit the two-headed cow, free outdoor activities, including a walking tour and concert are planned for the Old State House. Several free walking tours are scheduled at the Stowe Center — reserve your spot in advance. Tour the Isham-Terry House, which is rarely open, at half-price. Various other sites have virtual offerings.

  •  AMONG THE ACRES: Folk/Americana music, live and free, at Parkville Market (1400 Park Street), 6-9 PM on June 17, 2021
  • TANG SAUCE: Go to Pratt Street and take a listen. June 19 from 12-1 PM. Free.
  • SHOKAZOBA: Who doesn’t want to hear a nine-piece funk band?! This is a free, live show at Parkville Market (1400 Park Street), 6-9 PM on June 24, 2021.
