Here’s a thought: instead of replacing the (thankfully) removed Columbus statue, we leave it like this.

It can be like a secular version of the “remembering to forget” that happens  during Purim, the annual practice of eradicating the memory of Amalek. Leaving the base with the name shows what used to be there, and we can remind ourselves why (crimes against humanity) Columbus deserved to lose his spot on the pedestal.

Maybe add a sign: “Statue removed for repair of damaged relationships.”
