Zion Hill Cemetery, like so many other places, lost trees and large branches in the tropical storm last week.

Then, there’s the ongoing damage caused by its resident vandals (pictured below). Close to 20 groundhogs were spotted within 15 minutes, running amok and smugly standing on toppled tombstones beside the holes they dug.

Meanwhile at Cedar Hill Cemetery, no groundhogs at all spotted, despite similar geology. Aside from whatever may have been freshly taken down during the recent storm, very few monuments were in trouble there. By “very few,” I mean that I counted three — one small headstone that was a little wobbly, one mausoleum door that had presumably fallen off, and another monument that has been fenced off and is obviously awaiting repairs. Being able to count on one hand the total in need of work shows consistent maintenance.
