You can’t be too surprised when the average person falls victim to an infodemic when our own leaders can’t even interpret each others’ statements accurately.

Today, on the City of Hartford’s coronavirus info page, we have this statement:

However, that is not what Gov. Lamont said.

Here is the governor’s statement:

The State of Connecticut’s order is more nuanced, as it should be.

Outside in your own yard? You probably don’t need to suffocate yourself. Walking through a park? No mask needed unless you can’t keep two meters between you and other visitors. Riding the bus? Mask up. Buying your yeast and toilet paper? Cover up.

Still waiting to hear from the City of Hartford why many members of the Hartford Police Department have not been wearing masks when interacting with the public and other police at close range, though it’s far less important that I hear any excuses and more important that the cops start taking precautions.

If you’re thinking “But I don’t care if cops or criminals get sick,” you’re missing how this whole thing works. It’s not about either of them. Both parties have families, including the elderly, who they are potentially exposing. They also go to restaurants, grocery stores, and talk with the victims of crimes.

They also stand around talking with the person who directs traffic at Hartford Hospital’s Covid-19 drive-thru testing station, as witnessed on Sunday, April 19. Nobody in that conversation was wearing a mask or standing two meters apart.

How do you build trust with the public when you are actively disregarding our health? Maybe this changes now that Lamont has issued an order, but it should not have to come to that for public servants to use common sense and act as if they cared about those they are here to allegedly serve and protect.
