Since 2006, the free Taste of the Caribbean and Jerk Festival has filled Hartford with tempting aromas, vibrant costumes, and upbeat rhythms. On Saturday, alongside additional food vendors, was Scott’s Jamaican Bakery, with spinach and cheese patties, among other offerings.

Besides food vendors on the upper and lower levels of the Riverfront Plaza, there were activities for children, like face painting and a jumping house.

The main stage and plaza stage were in constant use by musicians performing reggae, gospel, calypso, salsa, and jazz, among other genres.

Wrapping up the weeklong celebration of West Indian Independence will be the parade on Saturday, August 11, 2012. The parade will end in Bushnell Park with more music and food.
