Tomorrow the Connecticut Science Center marks its first birthday. They began celebrating early with last night’s Liquid Lounge.

The Liquid Lounge is a sporadic event for adults only; great for those of us who do not feel like fighting it out with kids over who gets to use the pinball machine or water table next.

On each floor there was music: DJs, live music, and a jukebox.

A circus environment was created with people walking on stilts and making hats and bracelets out of balloons.

The drinks were served up with a nerdy flair — I thought that the “smoking” in the cocktail I ordered was just one of those meaningless adjectives that get tacked on, but it was a literal description. The addition of dry ice made the blueberry lemonade concoction fizz, bubble, and smoke for a solid five minutes.

Down at the absinthe bar, test tubes filled with the drink were set out.

There was even an oxygen bar. People were walking around with plastic tubes in their noses.

To celebrate with the whole family, the Connecticut Science Center has reduced the general admission price by half on Saturday June 12th.
