As over ninety people filed into the library atrium, they were greeted by the aroma of vegetable pakora, a welcome alternative to the standard satisfying-but-dull sandwiches; a pianist played tunes to create an inviting mood for the Community Dialogue Kick-off Event last week.
“Diversity also means inclusiveness,” Mayor Segarra told the crowd, as he spoke in support for greater access to learning opportunities, especially for immigrants. A part of inclusiveness, he suggested, was making sure that immigrant community is not “placed in a holding pattern for ten or fifteen years.”

Al’s Market and Deli on Asylum Street has added tables and plants to the sidewalk surrounding the storefront.
At the end of February it looked like the Front Street District was continuing to progress at a snail’s pace. A visit to the area since shows work being done with plumbing in one space.
It was announced today that on top of the $150,000 of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, the proposed skatepark at Heaven has been approved to receive another $10,000 from the Tony Hawk Foundation.
While some closely involved believe construction could be completed by the end of this summer, others have suggested that such predictions are too ambitious, saying that construction beginning during the summer would be more realistic.
The second round of Real Hartford 5th Anniversary fun-n-games requires creativity.
Candy Chang of New Orleans wondered how people might influence development. She created fill-in-the-blank stickers which instead of reading “Hello my name is ____” state “I WISH THIS WAS_____.” People fill them out and stick them on all manner of surfaces, including vacant and/or blighted buildings.
