Not everyone realizes this, but there is more than one conduit in city limits.

The one anyone seems to know about is the North Branch and South Branch conduit, which merge near Pope Park, then flows below Bushnell Park and the Whitehead Highway. Then, there’s the auxiliary conduit, beginning near Pope Park and essentially traveling in a straight line below Park Street. Its outlet is pictured here.

Another contains part of Gully Brook, and joins the first conduit in downtown. A portion of Folly Brook runs in a conduit near the Wethersfield town line. Cemetery Brook is mostly in a conduit, except for the segment in Cedar Hill Cemetery and another between New Britain Avenue and Chandler Street.

When we talk about how the highway cut us off from “the river,” we might clarify that we also buried multiple rivers throughout the city
