The building is the Adult Education on Washington Street. I have no idea what it was at one time. I think it was some type of Union Hall considering the sculpture up over the doorway. From Ben Franklin “He that hath a trade hath an estate; and he that hath a calling hath a place of profit and honor. A ploughman on his legs is higher than a gentleman on his knees.” .

Who ever owns the building should fix their sidewalk. Its a very dangerous crumbling mess. But in the summer they sure have pretty flowers. I will ask Steve.

Currently owned by the City of Hartford, Board of Education — according to the Assessor’s website.

There was a time when a copy of the Rodin sculpture The Thinker was in front of the building at 60 Washington Street. It was a vocational school of some kind. The sculpture was moved in late 50’s or early 60’s to a new ‘Tech’ school on Flatbush Avenue.

Yep, it used to be the State Trade School. My grandfather attended.
I just read about that sculpture and now want to go find it.
