With the Affordable Care Act under attack, approximately 300 people marched from the Legislative Office Building to the Connecticut State Capitol on Wednesday, following an afternoon of lobbying legislators. Currently, the Affordable Care Act ensures free mammograms, some types of birth control, and prenatal/maternity care, among other services. Planned Parenthood, a provider of preventative health care, was part of the Connecticut Coalition for Choice — the group speaking against any restrictions to reproductive health, rights, or access in Connecticut. Around 60,000 people access health care through Planned Parenthood in Connecticut every year; half of those patients do not have private health care.

The evening rush hour rally included support for undocumented women and the LGBT community, along with Black Lives Matter.

Expect to see more pink at the Connecticut State Capitol on Saturday, January 21st, when people gather in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington. Before that, on January 20th, there is a Hartford Resistance Rally that will gather at City Hall and move to the Ribicoff Federal Building, then to Park Street.
