The Hartford Hot Several and Boycott Brass Band have been spotted in many locations across Hartford today. These performances took place at venues like a Hartford BID board meeting, the Ebony Horsewomen site (pictured), Classical Magnet School, Rawson School, Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy, Hartford Public Library, Trinity College, and more.

What looks spontaneous actually incubated for months, with an email announcement and Facebook event being created long before the thought of Mardi Gras was on anyone else’s radar. The Hartford Hot Several sent fans a message asking “if you or someone you know has a contact at a business, school, social service provider, house of worship, restaurant, store, factory, or any other spot in Hartford that might benefit from ten minutes of Mardi Gras music and donuts, please let me know! It’s a great surprise for employees, students, clients, or anyone else who needs an extra dose of joy to get them through the winter.”

Downtown commuters will be serenaded in the area of State House Square later this afternoon. A few more pop up performances are scheduled, and then the bands, along with the Expandable Brass Band, can be enjoyed at Real Art Ways from 7-10 p.m.
