It has been awhile, Sheldon/Charter Oak. Last time, the new development on Popieluszko Court was still quite unfinished and the former Capewell Horse Nail Co. factory was actively crumbling. Like, trees growing out of the building, crumbling. It’s not that all is clean and shiny now. There is progress with the factory and that new housing looks occupied, but other areas look overlooked.

In some cases, it may just be a matter of the weather. After a few heatwaves, nearly everyone is bound to lose some steam and not keep up with yards and gardens. At this community garden, many of the plots are in disarray, with crops going to seed. A few portions have been maintained well, and even with the bolted basil, this is nicer to look at than another random vacant lot. Not pictured: grapes. I don’t know how many are required to make wine, but there has to be enough for one or two bottles down here.
