So, now the City of Hartford has extended the parking ban through 9 a.m. on February 3rd. Residents will have until noon to get cars out of those lots. Hartford Public Schools are closed.

Thanks for the updates – this was helpful. Thanks to Real Hartford, though, I now see why I was confused today:
Original: 11pm on 2/2
Mid-afternoon change: Moved up to 6pm (during worsening conditions)
Evening change: Extended to 9am on 2/3
First winter in Hartford, but not the best crisis communication, right? I wish I could sign up for alerts directly from the city like they do in the Boston area, especially if they are going to make changes like this. I never thought I’d say this, but I’ve missed how Massachusetts’ over-communication these past two weeks!

And on my end: we would typically get these alerts sent by email, often with a little context. This week, I was given an emailed link to one alert posted on the City website. Ok. Then the two changes were posted, but with no notification (to me, anyway) otherwise. Those announcements were not time-stamped. I don’t know why the City of Hartford decided to change those times.
It’s extremely confusing. This is not legal advice, but I’d guess if anyone got ticketed or towed after the first or second time change, he would have maybe a decent chance of fighting that on the grounds of what gives!
In New England we get snow every year. I’m really perplexed as to why the powers that be are struggling to manage the clean up following fairly typical storms.

I received 2 phone calls from the city of Hartford but I don’t remember what the first one said and I just picked up the 2nd, about an hour later, and then hung up. I also think that I heard about the parking ban extension on WFSB early news but don’t quote me on that since I don’t own a car so do not have problems such as this. I shut out needless information as my old brain is full.
Good luck in tying to figure out the powers that be in this city. I have been here almost 40 years and still shake my head more often than it should be shook.
