This is what a street looks like when a parking ban is actually enforced.

UPDATE: 13 Feb 2014 The parking ban has been extended until 4pm on February 14, 2014. Hartford Public Schools will be closed on Friday.

Pretty much the only thing that’ll be open on Thursday is Red Rock Tavern because they never close
(but you should call first to confirm) so just get over it and limber up for more shoveling.

Hartford Public Schools have already announced that they will be closed. What this means for everyone is that the schools will have plenty of free parking available during the on-street parking ban which begins at 8pm on Wednesday. That parking ban will be in effect until Mayor Segarra announces otherwise. The flip side of this is that if y’all want your little darlings to have teachers when school resumes, you need to remove your vehicles from the lots when the ban is over so that the spaces can be plowed and school staff have a place to park.

If you are not near a school or prefer to park elsewhere, free parking is also available in the Morgan Street Garage, parking lots in Pope Park and Elizabeth Park, the Keney Park entrance lot off Ridgefield Street, the Colt Park lot accessible by Wawarme Street, KDA Center lot on Naugatuck, Metzner Center lot, and the 2 Holcomb Street lot. If you are still hard up, ask a neighbor if she or he has extra room in the driveway.

If you leave your vehicle on the street during the parking ban, it is subject to ticket and tow. A message from the Mayor’s Office states that owners of vehicles:

towed during the parking ban should contact the Hartford Police Department at (860) 757-4000. The cost for retrieving a towed vehicle is $97.84. An additional $99.00 ticket will be issued which owners are responsible for paying before the answer date.

In a previous message from the City of Hartford, it was claimed that “City vehicles will plow to the curb up to eight hours after the storm has passed,” but there are a number of Hartford streets that still lack that curb-to-curb plowing following the storm last Wednesday.

If you are scheduled for trash collection on Thursday, don’t bother. Put your junk out on the curb on Friday instead. The regular Friday collection routes will also experience a one-day delay. Don’t put electronics or bulky items out. They’ll get covered by snow.

Those needing shelter during the storm can call 211 or go to the following shelters:
·        McKinney Shelter: 34 Huyshope Ave
·        Immaculate Conception Shelter: 560 Park St
·        South Park Inn: 75 Main S

These will be open 24 hours during the storm.

We will update this as needed, but don’t expect any pictures of us sticking a ruler into a snowbank. Ain’t gonna happen.
