Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting will, after discussing other issues publicly, enter executive session to deal with the personnel matter that is Capital Prep Magnet School’s principal, Steve Perry.

In November, Matt Poland, Chair of the BOE, called for an investigation into the principal after Perry made appalling remarks on social media. These comments have been well-chronicled on the Wait What? blog. A former teacher from the school has since spoken out about her experience there. Other teachers have reported similar treatment. Parents, under the condition of anonymity, have told of inappropriate punishments for students’ minor misdeeds. Because this matter is in executive session, we do not currently know what precisely is to be discussed.

Also on the agenda: approval of site for Kinsella Magnet School for the Performing Arts extension (proposed spot is next to SAND on Main Street), approval of lease agreement in part of Lincoln Culinary Institute, various contracts, and the appointment of Paula Erickson as Interim Principal at Opportunity High School.

The meeting begins at 5:30pm at the Journalism and Media Magnet Academy, 150 Tower Avenue. Except for the executive session portion, the meeting is open to the public.
