After an embarrassing show back in September, the West End Civic Association has now issued a statement via its mailing list, offering full support of the food pantry operating out of Grace Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
The organization sent an email this morning saying:
The pantry at Grace Church is getting ready to assist those in need during the holiday season. In support of the pantry, the WECA Board has made a unanimous motion stating, WECA and its Board support food pantries as a vital social service. In addition, after clarifying the zoning and licensing issues concerning Grace Seventh Day Adventist Church, WECA and its Board also support the existence of the Church’s food pantry and appreciate the service it provides to our neighborhood and those in need.
If you would like to show your support for the pantry, feel free to stop by on Wednesdays between 11-1 and say hello, volunteer, or make a donation.
The food pantry is located near Elizabeth Park on Prospect Avenue.

WECA has enough money in their budget that they should be making a contribution to the food pantry. Anything less is just talk.

1. Several board members (including the president) have been working at the food pantry as volunteers since September (in fact, feel free to join them – anything less is just talk).
2. Pastor McGregor of the Grace Church was welcomed to the the November WECA board meeting, with the goal of further opening avenues of communication between the church and the neighborhood. It was clearly, for all present, a very positive exchange.
3. The pantry has informed WECA that they have a shortfall of turkeys for Thanksgiving, and WECA will be purchasing the number of turkeys they have indicated they need to make their goal.

Ooh, a unanimous motion. That makes up for their making it clear that the poor and hungry aren’t welcome in their neighborhood.
