I thought they can only get a letter when they are opened and running a kitchen. Everyone’s kitchen should be clean when it is brand new and this place hasn’t even opened yet. Maybe the B is for Building Permit anything is possible in this city.
No, they do issue ratings before opening. I’ve seen other such places, though those started with an ‘A’. It does seem bizarre to grade a place before it has actually served customers. I mean, any place can start with an A or B because there’s no line out the door, no distractions.
I despair of Sunberry (aka the East Koreans) ever opening, they have been building out for a year now, paying rent and taking in no revenue. And if they do open, will there only be 1 burger, 1 burrito and 1 sandwich?
It also looks like the West Koreans at Rose Gourmet are finished. That’s a shame, they had lovely egg-licious breakfast for under $4.00.
I suspect, based on no evidence, that the accents of the majority of the workers put people off. Their soups and sandwiches were at least as good as Max Bibo’s and Bibo is packed every day.
When there was all the hype around Market 21, I felt confused because downtown had a pretty decent market already — Rose Gourmet. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people would not shop there because of the accents, and yes, that is absolutely sad.
Finally some progress on the Sunberry’s Cafe. There is now a letter grade in the window of the Pratt Street restaurant.
