The former Hartford Courant Arts Center at 224 Farmington Avenue has switched ownership again, this time to The Conference of Churches.

Once home to the Hartford Ballet, Connecticut Opera, and Hartford Symphony Orchestra,  the Greater Hartford Arts Council sold the property to Aetna in 2010, which in turn sold it to TCC today for $380,000.

Rev. Dr. Shelley D. Best, The Conference of Churches’ President and Chief Executive Officer says that “$500,00 funding from the State of Connecticut Bond Commission” has enabled her organization to “redevelop this magnificent building for new uses that will have significant positive impact for those who live and work in the Asylum Hill neighborhood, the city of Hartford and beyond.”

The Conference of Churches, which already occupies some of the building, has plans to remain in the space as it is redeveloped. The remodel will provide “lease space for area businesses and organizations committed to transformational leadership, health equity and community economic development.”
