“Throughout this process,” Mayor Segarra said, “it became clear that in order to move Hartford forward, we must focus on the priorities of the people who live, work and visit Hartford.”

Those priorities seem to include pay raises for Segarra and his chief of staff, corporation counsel, and the chief operation officer while there is a projected $54.4 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2012-13.

To see where the money is going, check out the budget summary posted by the City of Hartford. While the budget for education will remain steady, it makes up 52% of the total general fund expenditures.

City Council has until May 31st to adopt Mayor Segarra’s proposed budget. In the next few weeks, residents can let the City Council know what they think about where the money is slated to go. A public hearing on the budget will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 5 p.m. in Bulkeley High School.  Anybody can speak if they sign up early.
