I know, but I’ll let someone else win this week :)

  2. Allison says:

Somewhere outside Center Church — near the cemetery, I think?

  3. TC says:

I just want to win. Just once. Waah.

  4. Erin Monroe says:

This sculpture is displayed in Traveller’s plaza–across from the Wadsworth Atheneum. I’m waving at it now!

  5. Julio Concepcion says:

Is this the statue at Travelers? In Travelers Square?

  6. Kerri says:

Erin and Julio got it! You can share the smugness for intelligence, but Erin wins for her speed.

  7. Jennifer S. says:

Coincidentally, just pulled out Frances Wadsworth’s papers to catalog

I always thought that this piece of sentimental crap was located in “there goes the neighborhood.” Ugh. To look at this one would gather that they were a peaceful, loving people but the truth is they committed horrible genocide against the original people. It turns my stomach every time I see this piece. Just a white man’s piece of history if we ever saw one. Melt it down, make something useful!

Totally agree with the interpretation and the sentiment, Richard. Public monuments like this are often about revisionist history from the point of view of the oppressor. But the art work itself itself (the style) is esthetically bland and pretty forgettable. If you really want to see some fascist looking public art, check out the piece at the Learning Corridor. That is one sadly misguided piece of crap!
