when do we get to see the results?

Good question. The rose garden votes ends in July, but I’m not sure when the results will be announced. It looks like the bookstore survey is closing in less than two weeks. If I hear anything about the results from either, I’ll keep people posted.

The survey describes the opportunities already available at Hartford Public Library without the food service. Perhaps food service in the Library’s atrium would be a better way to make this type of experience happen in Downtown Hartford rather than a commercial enterprise that will attract a relatively small population. The Downtown Library already has more than 600,000 visits each year — an attractive fact for any food service vendor.

I actually made that comment when I took the survey. The library offers many computers for use, there are already many cultural activities at the library and other venues both downtown and in the neighborhoods, etc. As a nerd, I’m never going to object to a bookstore, and I would especially prefer to buy books in Hartford than at a chain in West Hartford, but when it comes down to it, we have many books available to us already thanks to the library.
I’m not sure of a tactful way to put this, but it might be helpful if people did more research into what already exists before getting super involved about opening this or that. I mean, one needs to only look slightly outside of downtown to see that we have many of the needs met in a former bookstore that does virtually everything except sell books now.

Didn’t these folx say they were from UConn? As the state’s most identifyable brand, it would be a draw into downtown Hartford, and it would good for them because downtown Hartford is accesible while their campus bookstore is on the outer peripheries of nowhere.

I took the bookstore survey and I’m sorry to say their dropout rate will be very, very high.
Even someone like me, who thinks that the lack of downtown bookstore in Hartford borders on the criminal, had a tough time with finishing it.
Which is a shame, really.

I do not know the people who created the survey. Was there anything in particular that you felt was not working about it? I thought it was a little long and wordy.
