The Department of Health & Human Services will begin processing applications for the
Elderly/Disabled Tax Rebate Program on May 15, 2008 thru September 15, 2008. The
department’s Senior Services Division, which processed a record number of over 4000
applications last year, anticipates an increase for this year.

The program will operate from May 15th to May 30 at Pope Park Recreation Center and
from June 2nd to September 15th at various sites throughout the city. Please, see the complete
schedule on the second page of this release.

This program by State law provides a reimbursement for Connecticut renters who are elderly or
totally disabled, and whose income does not exceed certain limits (single: $29,800 or married:
$36,500). Renters’ rebate can be up to $700 for single persons and $900 for married couples.
The renters’ rebate amount is based on a graduated income scale and the amount of rent and

renter applies.

In order to complete the application, the state mandates that all applicants submit the required
documents.

This Tuesday, Hartford 2010 and the Hartford Public Library are sponsoring a community discussion on the "sub-prime lending crisis."

The sub-prime lending crisis has sent shockwaves through financial markets both here and abroad. Its
impact on communities and families has received less attention. What does it mean for communities and families in and around Hartford? What effect is it having on the local economy? Is the crisis nearing its end, or is it just beginning? And how can something similar be prevented in the future? Come discuss these and other questions on this important topic with an expert panel representing a wide variety of perspectives.

This program is free to the public and begins at 6pm at the downtown branch of the Hartford Public Library.
